Richard Benwell, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Wantage Constituency, joined Friday's march in Oxford as part of the global climate strike. He heard from young people determined to get their message of climate concern across to politicians in Westminster.
Richard underlined his support for a low-carbon, nature-rich future, emphasising the Liberal Democrats' twin commitment to a net zero economy by 2045 and reversing declines in our natural world. He said that "the global climate strike is right to call for faster climate action and stronger change on the ground. Westminster's zero carbon target must be brought forward, with policies capable of achieving it.
"Walking around Wantage constituency, thousands of homes are being thrown up that ought to be zero carbon, hundreds of farmers are struggling on who ought to be rewarded for more climate action. It's time that the Government focused on putting the policies in place to match Parliament's rhetoric and end this climate emergency."
