Richard Benwell has been selected as the Liberal Democrats’ Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Wantage Constituency for an expected snap General Election later this year.
Richard was selected with an overwhelming majority by local Liberal Democrat members who attended a hustings meeting in Didcot last week.
Following decisive electoral victories for the Liberal Democrats in the Vale and South Oxfordshire District Council elections and in the European Parliament election in May, Richard believes that the Liberal Democrats are best placed to challenge the Conservatives Wantage seat when an early election is called.
Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Richard Benwell said
“I am thrilled to be standing for Parliament in my home constituency, Wantage. The Liberal Democrats are the only party for remain who can challenge the Conservatives who seem hell-bent on Brexit whatever the cost.
“I will be standing for internationalism, a better environment, and equality. In our constituency, that means protecting and improving our green spaces, making sure developments are high quality, green and affordable. It means investing in social care and local services and making sure our market towns can thrive.
“I want to refocus attention on what really matters: building a greener, fairer economy and a just society, and taking strong national and international action to stop climate change.”
