Reacting to the Prime Minister's endorsement of the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy at Conservative Party conferece, Richard Benwell, the LibDem's prospective parliementary candidate for Wantage, said:
"Like Mr Johnson, in Oxfordshire we are proud of the research underway at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy. One day, it could help end energy poverty around the world and avert climate change.
"This work is funded by the European Union to the tune of £60 million each year and - like other world-leading scientific inquiry at sites like Harwell - it relies on the close, collaborative work of European scientists to succeed."
"The future of UK science is in collaboration, but Brexit puts that future at serious risk. A Remain vote is a vote for a stronger future of scientific collaboration.
