As part of the 'Unite to Remain' agreement struck between the Plaid Cymru, Green and Liberal Democrat parties, Wantage Green Party leaders and supporters have made clear that they will be voting for Richard Benwell on the 12th of December.
Dr Benwell, a staunch campaigner and expert on environmental issues, said: "I am so grateful to the Green Party for stepping aside in Wantage as part of the national 'Unite to Remain' agreement. It was a very brave decision. We already work in partnership with our Green Party colleagues on South Oxfordshire District Council and share a lot of common ground. Voters deserve politicians who take the climate change crisis, and a commitment to restoring nature and our habitat seriously.
Writing on Facebook, recently-elected Green County Councillor for Wallingford, Dr Pete Sudbury, said: "95 years of a Conservative MP holding the Wantage seat in Parliament, do we want another 95 of the same? I am supporting Unite to Remain and Richard Benwell."
Wantage is one of sixty Unite to Remain seats across England and Wales where Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and the Greens have agreed to step aside for each other in a bid to boost the chances of pro-Remain candidates being elected.
